George BonDurant passes away at 101posted 7/13/2017 2:48:29 PM
The founder and first president of Mid-Atlantic Christian University, George W. BonDurant, died Tuesday at the age of 101. BonDurant started Roanoke Bible College, Elizabeth City, NC, in 1948 due to the extreme lack of preachers in the region at the time. He served as president until 1986. The college changed its name to Mid-Atlantic Christian University in 2009.
He served as president of Atlanta Christian College (now Point University), from 1937 to 1947 (starting at about age 22). Then he became an evangelist for the Roanoke District Churches of Christ in eastern North Carolina. He founded Roanoke Bible College a year later and taught at the school all during his presidency.
Services are pending. A complete obituary is available at MACU’s website and at the Christian Standard website.
